Gizzu Hero Max vs EcoFlow DELTA 2: specs and price compared (South Africa, 2026)
We have not tested either unit ourselves. This comparison uses only the manufacturers' own South African pages (Gizzu and EcoFlow ZA) and prices listed by South African sellers on the date above. Both units store about the same energy (1024 Wh), so the real questions are price, output power, and how much each page actually tells you. Where a fact is missing from an official page, we say so rather than fill the gap.
Quick answer
- Cheapest way to get 1 kWh of backup: the Gizzu Hero Max (with app). Same 1024 Wh capacity as the DELTA 2 for R10,999 at Gizzu, or R9,595 at ComX Computers, against R16,499 for the DELTA 2 at EcoFlow ZA. That is roughly R5,500 to R6,900 less.
- Bigger appliances, more outlets and solar: the EcoFlow DELTA 2. It has 1800 W continuous output (2700 W surge) against the Hero Max's 1000 W (1200 W peak), six AC outlets against two, 500 W solar input, an optional extra battery and a 5-year warranty against Gizzu's 24 months.
- Read the fine print on the Hero Max: Gizzu's page for the in-stock app version does not state the battery type, cycle life, charge time or UPS switch-over time. Those figures (LiFePO4, 3500 cycles, 1.3 h, 10 ms) are published only for the older, out-of-stock Hero Max. Ask Gizzu or the seller to confirm them for the app version before you buy.
Which Hero Max? There are two
Gizzu lists two Hero Max models. The Hero Max 1024Wh/1000W UPS Power Station With App (GPS1000UV2) is the current one: R10,999 and in stock when we checked (Gizzu showed stock in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban). The original Hero Max 1024Wh/1000W UPS Power Station (GPS1000U) was listed at R8,999 but out of stock at all three branches. The original's page has a full spec sheet; the app version's page has a much shorter one. In the table below we keep the two apart, so you can see which number comes from which page.

Runtime estimates
Because both units have 1024 Wh, runtimes on the same load are about the same, as long as the load stays within the Hero Max's 1000 W limit. These are our estimates, not manufacturer claims or test results. We allow 15% for inverter and other losses (the same 0.85 factor Jackery uses in its own published runtime formula), since neither Gizzu nor EcoFlow publishes a factor.
Usable energy (estimate): 1024 Wh × 0.85 ≈ 870 Wh for either unit.
Runtime ≈ 870 Wh ÷ total watts of everything running at once.
| Example load (your watts will differ) | Hero Max (est.) | DELTA 2 (est.) |
|---|---|---|
| Router + fibre ONT, 24 W | ~36 h | ~36 h |
| Home office: laptop, monitor, router, ONT, 120 W | ~7.3 h | ~7.3 h |
| TV, decoder, router and LED lights, 200 W | ~4.4 h | ~4.4 h |
| Desktop PC and monitor, 400 W | ~2.2 h | ~2.2 h |
| Single 1500 W appliance (e.g. kettle) | Not possible: above the 1000 W rating | ~35 min (within 1800 W rating) |
For comparison, Gizzu's page for the original Hero Max lists its own single-device estimates, for example 6.3 hours for a 140 W 55″ LED TV and 2.9 hours for a 300 W desktop PC. Those are Gizzu's figures for the older model, not ours.
Output power: the biggest real difference
For Wi-Fi, laptops, TVs, lights and most fridges, 1000 W is plenty. It matters once you want to run something with a heating element or a big motor. Gizzu's original Hero Max page warns that if the total load goes over 1200 W, overload protection gives “up to 10 seconds of runtime” before the unit shuts down. The DELTA 2's 1800 W rating covers several appliances in EcoFlow ZA's own runtime list, such as a 1150 W electric grill and a 1300 W microwave, though they drain the battery fast (EcoFlow lists 0.6–0.7 hours). If you want to boil a kettle or run a microwave during load-shedding, the DELTA 2 is the one of these two that is rated for it.
UPS mode: keeping the Wi-Fi up when the power cuts
Both units can stay plugged into the wall and take over when the grid goes down. Gizzu describes the app version as having a “built-in UPS function”, and its page for the original Hero Max quotes a 10 ms switch-over. EcoFlow ZA says the DELTA 2 can be used “as an EPS (emergency power supply) to auto-switch to battery power when the grid goes down”, but does not give a switch-over time. Routers and laptops are usually fine either way. If you need a desktop PC to ride through without restarting, ask the seller for the switch-over time of the exact model you are buying.
Gizzu also notes, for the original Hero Max, that after two days in UPS mode the battery management system holds the charge between about 90% and 100% to avoid overcharging, so do not be surprised if the display does not sit at 100%.
The “0.2 seconds” transfer figure on EcoFlow ZA's DELTA 2 page refers to EcoFlow's separate transfer switch accessory, not the DELTA 2's own EPS.

EcoFlow DELTA 2
1024 Wh LFP (LiFePO4) battery rated for 3000 cycles to 80%+ capacity, six AC outlets with 1800 W total output (2700 W surge), two 100 W USB-C ports, 1200 W AC charging, 500 W solar input, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth app control, 12 kg and a 5-year warranty, according to EcoFlow South Africa. You can add one DELTA 2 or DELTA Max extra battery later; EcoFlow ZA listed the DELTA 2 Smart Extra Battery at R10,999 and a DELTA 2 + Smart Extra Battery bundle at R26,199.
Price: R16,499 at EcoFlow ZA (regular R17,999; checked 28 Oct 2026). EcoFlow ZA also lists a lower member-only price and refurbished units, but the refurbished DELTA 2 was out of stock when we checked.
Verdict
If your goal is to keep Wi-Fi, laptops, a TV, lights and maybe a fridge going through load-shedding, and you never need more than 1000 W at once, the Gizzu Hero Max gives you the same 1024 Wh for roughly R5,500 to R6,900 less. Before you buy, ask Gizzu to confirm the battery chemistry, cycle life and UPS switch-over time for the app version, since its page leaves them out. The EcoFlow DELTA 2 is worth the extra money if you want to run a kettle, microwave or other heating appliance, need more than two AC plugs, plan to charge from solar, may add a second battery later, or value a 5-year warranty over 24 months.
Safety notes
- Do not connect a power station to your home wiring yourself. A transfer switch must be installed by a registered electrician, who will issue a Certificate of Compliance (CoC).
- Stay within the rated output: 1000 W continuous for the Hero Max and 1800 W for the DELTA 2.
