EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro vs DELTA 2: which size do you need? (South Africa, 2026)

Prices checked 1 November 2026. Prices and stock change often – always confirm on the retailer's page before buying.

We have not tested either unit ourselves. This comparison uses only EcoFlow South Africa's own product, specification and warranty pages, and the prices EcoFlow ZA listed on the date above. Both are LFP (LiFePO4) power stations from the same brand, so the real question is size: the RIVER 2 Pro is the smaller, lighter 768 Wh unit, and the DELTA 2 is the bigger 1024 Wh unit with more than double the AC output.

Specs from EcoFlow ZA's RIVER 2 Pro and DELTA 2 product pages; warranty from EcoFlow ZA's warranty policy, which lists both models at 5 years. X-Boost note: EcoFlow ZA's DELTA 2 spec table says 2200 W, while a paragraph on the same page mentions 2400 W; we use the spec-table figure. Price per Wh is our own arithmetic: price ÷ capacity.

Runtime estimates

These are our estimates, not manufacturer claims or test results. We allow 15% for inverter and other losses (the same 0.85 factor Jackery uses in its own published runtime formula), since EcoFlow does not publish one.

RIVER 2 Pro: 768 Wh × 0.85 ≈ 653 Wh usable.

DELTA 2: 1024 Wh × 0.85 ≈ 870 Wh usable.

Runtime ≈ usable Wh ÷ total watts of everything running at once.

Example load (your watts will differ)RIVER 2 Pro (est.)DELTA 2 (est.)
Router + fibre ONT, 24 W~27 h~36 h
Home office: laptop, monitor, router, ONT, 120 W~5.4 h~7.3 h
TV, decoder, router and LED lights, 200 W~3.3 h~4.4 h
Desktop PC and monitor, 400 W~1.6 h~2.2 h
Single 1500 W appliance (e.g. kettle)Above the 800 W rating; only via X-Boost (see below)~35 min (within 1800 W rating)

A typical four-hour load-shedding slot at 120 W uses about 480 Wh, which either unit covers. Two back-to-back slots, or a long outage with a TV and decoder running, is where the DELTA 2's extra 256 Wh starts to matter.

Output power: the biggest difference

The RIVER 2 Pro is rated at 800 W continuous. EcoFlow says its X-Boost mode lets it run appliances up to 1600 W, such as a hair dryer, microwave or kettle. X-Boost works by lowering the voltage to the appliance, so heating appliances run at reduced power (a kettle boils more slowly), and it does not suit every device. The DELTA 2 is rated at 1800 W continuous across six outlets, so a typical kettle or microwave runs at full power. If you want hot water or a microwaved meal during load-shedding without X-Boost, the DELTA 2 is the one to get.

Charging and solar

EcoFlow ZA quotes 0–100% in 70 minutes on wall power for the RIVER 2 Pro, handy if you only get a short window of grid power between slots. The DELTA 2 takes up to 1200 W from the wall; EcoFlow ZA's page does not give a charge time. For solar, the RIVER 2 Pro tops out at 220 W (EcoFlow quotes 3.5 hours with one 220 W panel), while the DELTA 2 accepts up to 500 W. If you plan to rely on solar during long outages or off-grid trips, the DELTA 2 gives you more room to grow. See our solar panel guide for SA panel prices.

UPS-style switch-over

EcoFlow ZA states a <30 ms EPS auto-switch for the RIVER 2 Pro. For the DELTA 2 it says the unit can be used “as an EPS (emergency power supply) to auto-switch to battery power when the grid goes down”, without a time. Routers, ONTs and laptops are usually fine either way. If you need a desktop PC to ride through without restarting, ask EcoFlow to confirm the switch-over time for the DELTA 2 before you rely on it. The 0.2 second figure on the DELTA 2 page is for EcoFlow's separate transfer switch, not the DELTA 2's own EPS.

Expansion

The DELTA 2 can take one DELTA 2 Smart Extra Battery (another 1024 Wh, for 2048 Wh total) or a DELTA Max extra battery. On 1 November 2026 EcoFlow ZA listed the DELTA 2 Smart Extra Battery at R8,099 (regular R12,999), and a DELTA 2 + Smart Extra Battery bundle at R20,099. EcoFlow ZA's RIVER 2 Pro page lists no extra battery, so its 768 Wh is what you get.

EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro

768 Wh LFP battery rated for 3000 cycles, 800 W pure sine wave AC (1600 W surge and X-Boost), 100 W USB-C, 0–100% wall charging in 70 minutes, 220 W solar input, <30 ms EPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth app control and about 7.8 kg, according to EcoFlow South Africa. The box includes the unit, an AC charging cable and a quick start guide. EcoFlow ZA notes it may make a noise up to 62 dB when charging or discharging at high wattage.

Price: R10,399 for the South African plug version at EcoFlow ZA (regular R11,199; in stock when checked 1 Nov 2026). EcoFlow ZA also listed RIVER 2 Pro solar bundles from R13,699 (with a 110 W Lightweight panel) to R16,199 (with a 220 W panel).

EcoFlow DELTA 2

1024 Wh LFP battery rated for 3000 cycles to 80%+ capacity, six AC outlets with 1800 W total (2700 W surge), two 100 W USB-C ports, four USB-A ports, 1200 W AC charging, 500 W solar input, expandable with one extra battery, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth app control and 12 kg, according to EcoFlow South Africa.

Price: R12,999 at EcoFlow ZA (regular R17,999; in stock when checked 1 Nov 2026). That is lower than the R16,499 we saw in late October. EcoFlow ZA also listed a DELTA 2 + 220 W Lightweight solar panel bundle at R17,599.

Verdict

At the prices EcoFlow ZA listed on 1 November 2026, the DELTA 2 is the better buy for most homes: for R2,600 more you get a third more capacity, more than double the continuous AC output, six outlets, 500 W solar input and the option to add a battery, at a lower price per watt-hour. The RIVER 2 Pro still makes sense if weight and size matter most (7.8 kg against 12 kg), for example for camping or carrying it between rooms, if your loads stay well under 800 W, or if you want EcoFlow's stated <30 ms switch-over for sensitive electronics. If the DELTA 2 goes back to its earlier R16,499, the gap widens to about R6,100 and the RIVER 2 Pro becomes the better value for light loads.
